Reporting Income and Household Changes After Enrollment
If you are enrolled in a Marketplace plan and experience changes in income or household status, it is important to update your application promptly.
Types of Changes to Report:
- Income Changes: Increases or decreases in income.
- Household Changes: Adding or losing household members, such as through birth, adoption, or changes in dependents.
- New Coverage Offers: Receiving new health coverage options, including Medicaid, CHIP, or job-based insurance.
Why Timely Reporting is Crucial:
- Increased Income or Fewer Household Members: May lead to reduced savings or benefits. Failure to report these changes may result in repayment at tax time.
- Decreased Income or More Household Members: Could qualify you for additional savings or free/low-cost coverage through Medicaid or CHIP.
Action Steps:
- Update Your Application: Ensure your information is current to receive the appropriate savings and coverage.
- Submit Documentation: Provide any required documents to verify changes.
Additional Information:
- Impact on Savings: Use IRS tools to understand how changes may affect your savings.
- Canceling Your Plan: If necessary, follow proper procedures to cancel your Marketplace plan.
Keep your information up-to-date to ensure you maintain the right coverage and benefits

How to Report a Move
The procedure for reporting a move depends on whether you are relocating within the same state or moving to a different state.
Relocating Within the Same State:
- Update your application with your new address. Although your coverage options and savings are unlikely to change, we will inform you if you need to select a new plan.
Relocating to a Different State:
Important: Your current plan cannot be transferred to a new state. It is essential to report your out-of-state move immediately to prevent any coverage gaps and ensure you are enrolled in a plan appropriate for your new location.
Steps:
- Initiate a new Marketplace application specific to your new state.
- The application process will vary depending on whether your new state utilizes HealthCare.gov or operates its own website.
- When updating your application, select “Start a New State Application.”
- To report a move, choose “Report a move to a new state,” then click “Continue.” On the “Moving to a new state” screen, select “Continue” again and choose your new state and coverage year from the drop-down menu.
For additional support, please refer to HealthCare.gov or contact the Marketplace directly for further instructions.
Canceling Your Marketplace Plan
You may need to cancel your Marketplace insurance plan if you acquire other health coverage or for other reasons. The process and timing for canceling your plan will depend on:
1.The Reason for Cancellation: This could include obtaining a job-based health plan, qualifying for Medicaid or Medicare, or deciding to terminate coverage for other reasons.
2.Scope of Cancellation: Determine whether you are canceling the plan for all covered individuals or just for specific members.
To ensure a smooth transition, please review your options and proceed with the necessary steps based on your specific situation.
